Located within a 1930s apartment in Barcelona, Casa Norte residence by CORREA Studio is a masterclass in balancing respect for the past with a vision for contemporary living.
Tasked with transforming a fragmented layout, the design team tackled the challenge of a long, dark corridor and disjointed rooms by creating a more fluid, light-filled space. The solution was elegantly simple: unite the living, dining, and kitchen areas, drawing natural light from the terrace to flood the entire apartment, connecting both facades. The result is an open, airy interior where rooms flow seamlessly, enhancing the sense of space.
But this is not just a story of spatial reconfiguration. Casa Norte celebrates the apartment’s architectural heritage, peeling back layers to reveal its original bones. The design showcases the restored Catalan vaulted ceilings and partially exposed brickwork, weaving them into the fabric of the new design. A restrained palette of colors unifies old and new, creating a serene interplay of textures that honours the apartment's history while adding a modern touch.
Minimalism governs the intervention, with every element carefully considered. Custom-built furniture integrates seamlessly with walls and doors, ensuring that form follows function throughout. CORREA Studio’s approach results in a home that is as functional as it is beautiful—a tribute to timeless architecture with a contemporary edge.
