EVOLVE is an elegant flat-pack chair made from 100% recycled plastic designed by London-based designer Tom Robinson.
The black chair is constructed from recycled plastic sheets made by Netherlands-based The Good Plastics Company from e-waste, such as discarded laptops and computers. Its colour comes from the black plastic of the electronics, which is crushed and granulated before being formed into plastic panels. The designer believes this process gives the material a look and feel that isn't usually associated with plastic.
Discarded consumer electronics are cleanly crushed, broken down into pellet form and then fused into strong plastic sheets, without producing any carbon emissions. These undyed, recycled sheets are then machined into structural furniture components, ready to be shipped internationally and assembled at home.
Robust metal Domino joints have been discreetly integrated into each of the chair’s components, meaning the end user can infinitely assemble and disassemble the chair using one simple Allen key. Thoughtful ergonomic details frame the different textural layers of this pioneering material, while retaining a calming and minimal appearance. The chair’s weatherproof material make-up mean it exists comfortably in indoor and outdoor environments.
All of their recycled products are carefully and cleanly produced from 100% waste plastic, with the lowest ecological footprint possible. EVOLVE’s material components are made from a single type of plastic, allowing them to be infinitely recycled.
"EVOLVE aims to present recycled plastic as a logical, attractive and robust material to build our futures." — Tom Robinson
