The S29 House by Francesc Rifé Studio is a study in austerity, where layered forms and thoughtful material choices shape an environment that feels both sophisticated and pristine.

Rooted in a dialogue between light and texture, the home balances privacy and openness while integrating seamlessly with its natural surroundings.

At the heart of the project are two courtyards that flood the interiors with natural light and create a continuous flow between indoor and outdoor spaces. The lower level, anchored in dark wood tones, is dedicated to communal living, where the kitchen, dining area, study, and living room flow effortlessly into each other and the courtyards. Upstairs, the private spaces are carefully arranged around a central hallway, which transitions into the walk-in closet of the master suite, connecting the vanity, terrace, bathroom, and bedroom.

Key architectural features, like the centrally located staircase, serve as focal points of the design. Enhanced by a skylight, the staircase combines natural and black-stained oak with steel and concrete, emphasizing the tactile nature of the materials. Throughout the house, large windows open to the surrounding courtyards, while Venetian blinds and vertical latticework protect the interior’s intimacy.

The rear courtyard, in particular, invites outdoor living, with a swimming pool, lush greenery, and a metal pergola that filters sunlight over the dining area. The materiality extends outward, as black-stained wooden slats wrap the exterior façade and conceal integrated storage spaces.

Despite its openness, the home feels inherently warm and grounded. A bespoke storage unit in the living room, crafted from the same material as the walls, centers attention on a discreet fireplace—turning it into a quiet yet powerful centerpiece for family life.

With its layered composition, balanced tones, and harmonious proportions, the S29 House achieves a sophistication that transcends its simplicity. The project’s interplay of textures, light, and space transforms minimalism into a living, breathing experience.
