Jellyfish Vase by nendo challenges conventional floral displays, submerging ultrathin silicon vases in water, where they float and undulate like jellyfish, redefining the roles of flower, vase, and water.
In this project, 30 ultrathin, transparent silicon vases float serenely within a large aquarium, their delicate forms undulating with the carefully calibrated currents. These vases, dyed to create a subtle gradation of colors, appear as ethereal silhouettes, merging seamlessly with the aquatic environment. The water, often a mere backdrop in conventional arrangements, becomes an active participant, its invisibility accentuating the symbiotic dance of vase and flower.
By submerging the vases in water, Nendo invites viewers to reconsider the hierarchy within the traditional trio of vase, water, and flower. Here, the vase is no longer a static container but a dynamic element, its buoyancy and movement integral to the overall composition. This redefinition blurs the boundaries between the elements, allowing them to coexist in a state of fluid harmony. The "Jellyfish Vase" thus becomes a poetic exploration of form and function, where the ephemeral beauty of the flower is echoed and amplified by its aquatic counterpart.
