Stine Mikkelsen is an experimental designer based in Copenhagen. With the background in textile design, she values materials above all.
Tactile Monoliths is Stine’s graduation project, inspired by the environment, where she grew up — the rough harbour on the Danish island. Through the project, the designer tried to implied the concept of how to use textile design in order to produce sculptural objects, assuring certain function.
„Many traditional crafts are disappearing from the maritime community. Knowledge is on the brink of being lost forever”, the young designer points out. Driven by the need to alive the going into oblivion craftsmanship, Stine visualizes the meaning and the qualities of such craft, reflecting how valuable is cultural and historical identity.
