Shuhei Goto established his own namesake architectural practice in Shizuoka Prefecture of Japan, in 2012. Working on versatile range of projects across the country, the architect completed recently an interior design intervention in his hometown.
The team of Shuhei Goto Architects undertook a design challenge to transform former office and apartment building into a single family house. Located close to the center of Shizuoka city, the building sits on a residential area, where the future environment is difficult to predict.
The architects’ answer to this circumstances was to create a living space characterized with privacy, yet widely open to the outside.
Thus, while renovating the first floor the architects created a void, introducing a new connection between two floors. They located all private room around it, hereby gaining spatial relation with the ground floor, where bright, spacious living room — the gathering point of the whole house was set.
