PENELAS ARCHITECTS is a Madrid-based studio for architecture established by José Luis Esteban Penelas, a Professor and Director of Architectonics Projects Department at the School of Architecture at the European University of Madrid in Spain.
Built in the middle of bushy forest of Las Rozas, Madrid, the Hidden Pavilion provides a place to live and meditate. Surrounded from each side by nature, the house allows one to enter, get wrapped and feel hidden.
The construction of the building interacts directly with the growing trees, allowing them to pass it through, creating natural vivid habitat in the inner space of the building. „Fully embedded within the forest, the pavilion openly embraces the presence of Nature through the enclosure of its glass exterior. The upper level surface is inclined, respectfully providing room for the growth of a bicentenary holm oak tree. The raised light wells catch the sunrays and directs them downwards towards the interior, rays that would have otherwise been blocked by the holm oak tree,” the architects of PENELAS ARCHITECTS describe.
