NOARQ is an architectural practice based in Porto, Portugal. It was established in 1998 by José Carlos Nunes de Oliveira and since then, studio evolved into an area of research, creation and production.
Presented project, named ED&JO House, implemented by the team of NOARQ is a residence located in centre of Vila Nova de Famalicão, Portugal.
In order to built this new house, the single-family dwelling of poor quality, that was standing on the triangular plot was demolished. Architects decided to create a robust villa with two floors, meanwhile preserving the garage, entrance, vertical access and storage area. Due to urbanist and thermal reasons, the house is closed to the north and open to the east, where light enters remarkable glazed facade eclipsed by curving walls, that form the front of the house. The illumination of the other rooms comes from small patios, which were cut out of the volume.
