Architecture studio Berger & Berger has added three new structures to a pair of 18th-century French mansions, creating a larger exhibition space for the collection of gallerist Yvon Lambert.
Yvon Lambert started compiling his art collection in 1960. Featuring work by leading figures in minimalist and conceptual art, it soon became known as the only place in France where many of these artists were so extensively represented.
Extension of the collection Lambert en Avignon is a commission gained by the team of Berger & Berger from a restricted competition, which they won thanks to their simple, respectful to the old part of the museum, design solution. The building of Contemporary Art Museum in Avignon has been enriched by a stone simple cubic form closing in its inside, spacious modern background emphasizing one of the most important collections from the museum.
