Located on the west coast of Sweden, Summer House M by Mikael Bergquist is a retreat house for an English family.

The house is not only a getaway from home but also a means of crossing cultural boundaries through the physical, for the house is a derivative of a typical Swedish farm.

The starting point for the project was to make a house for a family of four, that was simple and small, but large enough to accommodate guests and friends. It is a house that can be used all year around with different requirements.

The outside is rustic to withstand weather and time. The facades are clad in untreated wood. The roof in zinc and the deck is made of larch. Materials that do not need any treatment over time and will age beautifully.

"The traditional Swedish farm house is deeply rooted, almost as an icon...I wanted to combine this typology with a modern way of living, in close contact with nature." — Mikael Bergquist
