Linde Freya Tangelder, celebrated for her uncompromising approach to design in DESTROYERS BUILDERS, has now embarked on a visionary project in the serene Asse landscape near Brussels.
She not only established her new residence within the brutalist home crafted by architect Jozef Lietaert but has also cultivated a living ecosystem, serving as a source of inspiration for aspiring artists and designers, with the possibility of occasional visits to her home-atelier and studio.
This home studio, shared with her partner, landscape architect Jo Groven, embodies Tangelder's design ethos. The space is marked by an imposing wood-cast concrete ceiling, which harmoniously interacts with elements of brushed aluminium and massive oak. This architectural choice not only provides a dramatic backdrop for her sculptural furniture but also encapsulates the essence of her creative spirit.
The studio showcases key pieces from Tangelder's repertoire, including the Dining Table & Mirror Screen from her Carwan Gallery exhibition, the innovative Wax, Stone, Light lighting project for Cassina, and the Fundaments Daybed. The space serves as a canvas for her aesthetic explorations and collaborations with notable galleries like Nilufar and Carwan.
Functioning as a vibrant exhibition space, the main floor of home also reflects the dynamic nature of designer's work. The rest of the house, however, remains a work in progress. This ongoing transformation includes spaces dedicated to workshops, lacquer rooms, and modeling areas. Tangelder's living environment is a testament to her philosophy of embracing the 'unfinished' as a state of perpetual creation and development.
The future of this home-studio is as dynamic as Tangelder's own vision. Plans are underway to expand the studio into a larger atelier, reflecting her unwavering commitment to her craft and future aspirations. This space transcends the conventional boundaries of a home or studio. It is a breathing entity where art, design, and life merge, offering an exclusive insight into the mind of one of the most captivating designers of our era.
The interior design is a dialogue between robust architectural elements and delicate artistic details. The wood-cast concrete ceiling, brushed aluminium, and sculptural oak furniture create an immersive environment that showcases designer's ongoing body of work. Simultaneously, the ongoing refurbishment of the house indicates a commitment to continual growth and evolution, both personally and professionally. This living space, in its current state and future potential, embodies Tangelder's dedication to her art, serving as a beacon for aspiring artists and designers.
