In a striking amalgamation of design and functionality, Beyond Space crafted an office interior for Siersema that doubles as a showroom, located along the bustling waterfront of Amsterdam's main river, the IJ.

This project, completed in 2021, spans a modest 150 square meters but makes a substantial impact through its innovative use of space and materials. The design challenge was to transform a conventional high-ceilinged area, abundant in natural light yet lacking character, into a multi-functional space without the conventional use of walls. The solution came through the strategic use of semi-transparent drapes, dyed in serene ocean hues, which cascade from ceiling to floor. The textiles, meticulously lasercut to avoid fraying and weighted by chords to ensure perfect folds, define and subtly separate the space into zones for meetings, office tasks, seating, and communal activities.

The fabric’s gentle ripples and the calming color palette reflect the tranquility of the adjacent waters, harmonizing the interior with its waterfront setting. The choice of material and its arrangement not only serve aesthetic purposes but also enhance the acoustic quality of the space, fostering a sense of intimacy while maintaining visual connectivity across the entire area.

Each detail, from the double seams connecting cloth strands to the precise length of the drapes ensuring they hover just above the floor, underscores the meticulous attention to detail that both the client and designers uphold.

The conceptualization of this space was swift, yet its realization presented numerous technical challenges, requiring over fifty 3D renders to perfect the spatial dynamics. The result is a fluid yet distinct environment that encapsulates the essence of Siersema’s brand identity—elegance, functionality, and a deep connection to its craft.
