Zhong Lin, a self-taught photographer renowned for her synesthetic images that merge tactile sensations with vibrant visuals, in her Project 365 embarked on an ambitious journey during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Known for her work that spans art to fashion, Lin's photographs are celebrated for their sensuous and vibrant qualities, evoking textures and scents through imagery. Drawing from a diverse cultural background that weaves together elements from Chinese opera's red to Malaysia's vibrancy, Lin's work reflects a unique confluence of cultures.

In April 2020, faced with travel restrictions due to the pandemic, Lin initiated #Project365, a challenge to create and publish a new original photo on her Instagram every day for a year, starting from scratch each day. This project began on April 23, 2020, as a testament to creativity's power to provide joy and relief during times of languishing. The endeavor not only showcased Lin's relentless commitment to her craft but also her ability to find inspiration within constraints.

Growing up in a multicultural environment, Lin's artistry is deeply influenced by her upbringing. Her exposure to a mix of cultures and languages from an early age nurtured an open-mindedness and curiosity about the world, traits that are evident in her eclectic photographic work. Throughout the year-long project, Lin faced the challenge of maintaining creative momentum, making daily decisions on themes, subjects, and compositions without fail, regardless of external circumstances.

The project, which concluded on April 22, 2021, was a profound journey of self-discovery and resilience for Lin. It forced her to confront and embrace her indecisiveness and regrets, ultimately helping her grow both personally and professionally. Despite the difficulties, the daily commitment to creativity became a grounding force, enabling Lin to explore new facets of her style and approach.

Lin's creative process is characterized by spontaneity and instinct, with subjects and themes often chosen on the fly, reflecting her belief in the organic development of art. Chance and mistakes are embraced as integral parts of her work, contributing to the uniqueness and authenticity of her images. Throughout the project, Lin remained true to her instinctive nature, allowing her photography to evolve without confining herself to a specific style.

Project 365 not only highlights Lin's remarkable ability to find beauty and inspiration in the everyday but also serves as a reminder of the enduring power of art to connect and uplift. In a world oversaturated with images, Lin's work stands out for its emotional depth and the genuine connections it fosters with viewers. Through her project, Lin has demonstrated the transformative potential of creativity, offering a beacon of inspiration in uncertain times.
