In Copenhagen's historic Ny Østergade, New Mags has unveiled its flagship store, a quiet oasis designed by Norm Architects, showcasing a curated selection of lifestyle books, collectibles, and magazines.

Inspired by the classic library, the design showcases these books as pieces of art, surrounded by carefully selected sculptures and objects. The use of natural materials like oak wood and golden sandstone creates a calm and gentle backdrop, encouraging visitors to delve into the diverse selection of beautiful, thought-provoking, and essential books.

The store's design is a well-balanced blend of materials, forms, and functions, reflecting New Mags' brand ethos. The books take center stage in this dynamic setting, presented in a warm, inviting atmosphere that fosters quiet reflection amidst unique artworks. Located on the ground floor of a newly built, award-winning property, the store's interior seamlessly extends the exterior architecture. Sandstone columns inside mirror the building's façade, and the concrete flooring continues the level and color of the pavement outside, blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor spaces when the large glass doors are open.

Wooden panels line the walls, harmonizing with the grand façade windows and creating a welcoming, cozy feel within the tall space. These oak veneer walls not only evoke the charm of a traditional library but also introduce necessary vertical divisions in the spacious interior. Integrating the retail area with the company's core, pivoting wall panels reveal a hidden office space at the back of the store. This multifunctional area serves as a workspace, meeting spot, or quiet corner for customers to browse books undisturbed. This flexible design ensures the space remains clutter-free and adaptable to various needs, offering both privacy and openness as required.

The recurring use of oak wood ties the design together, featuring prominently in the wall shelves and a long study table, which break up and unify the interior. Drawing inspiration from beloved libraries, the design incorporates iconic elements like long study tables and expansive wooden shelves filled with stunning volumes and notable sculptures. This modern, minimalist interpretation maintains a warm, inviting atmosphere, perfect for book lovers to linger and explore.
