The collaboration between EWE Studio and Nouvel Studio has given birth to an awe-inspiring series of lights called Magma.
What makes this collection unique is the way in which it blends natural materials and traditional craftsmanship to create something truly exceptional.
The process of creating Magma began with the meticulous design of molds in varying sizes and scales. These molds were then meticulously hand-carved by local stonemasons using volcanic stone, which was specially chosen due to its resistance to the heat of blown glass. The artisanal nature of the process means that each piece in the collection boasts its own distinctive characteristics. The shape, thickness and tonality of the hand-blown glass bubbles all vary, creating an array of unique qualities that make each piece one-of-a-kind.
But the magic doesn't stop there. The amber glass surface of each bubble is given an acid finish that produces an ethereal golden glow. To complement this, the hand-hammered brass surface within each bubble further enhances the warm, inviting light that radiates from each piece. The end result is a series of lights that is not only visually stunning, but also pays homage to traditional techniques and materials. The Magma collection is a testament to the beauty that can be achieved when innovative design meets skilled craftsmanship.
