Motion portraits from the Yatreda series “Kingdoms of Ethiopia: የኢትዮጵያ መንግሥታት,” which merges historical Ethiopian heroes and heroines with the blockchain.

As a family of artists based in Addis Ababa, part of Yatreda motivation is to create and preserve the traditions of Ethiopian culture on the blockchain by making art in the style of tizita- nostalgia and longing for the past.

Kingdoms of Ethiopia is a direct descendant of Yatreda’s last series of work, Movement of the Ancestors. Kiya, the leader of the collective, shared an in-depth teaser video that captures the making of the new collection. Working across generations, the collective creates stunning motion portraits in collaboration on everything from set production and storytelling, to casting.
