Set against the dramatic sweep of the Itoshima Peninsula—this home carefully designed by Studio Tan, quietly emerges as a sanctuary where nature and nourishment intertwine.
Nestled at the foot of a gentle mountain, with views stretching over a pristine coastline facing the Genkai Sea and framed by the distant Sefuri range, the property is more than a site; it’s an invitation to a life where agriculture, cuisine, and daily living converge.
Inspired by the rhythms of nature, the design places sunlit fields to the east—bathed in the gentle glow of the morning—and carefully situates fruit trees on the north side, where cool breezes and afternoon light prevail. Along the western approach, a discreet parking area offers a constant glimpse of these living landscapes, merging the built environment with the land’s quiet poetry.
Inside, tradition gives way to a reimagined domestic narrative. The conventional living room has been set aside in favor of a kitchen that pulses as the heart of the home. Here, cooking is not confined to a single space but extends effortlessly into a raised Japanese-style room, an intimate study loft overlooking an inviting atrium, and a fluid outdoor dining area. This continuous, barrier-free layout nurtures spontaneous conversation and a shared celebration of food—transforming everyday moments into a communal art.
Above, a subtly sculpted roof slopes in three deliberate directions—toward the parking area, the fruit trees, and the sun-kissed fields—to collect rainwater in a dedicated tank. This sustainable gesture not only honors the cycle of nature but also reinforces the home’s role as a tool for living—a vessel for accumulating and savoring the quiet, daily joys of life.
It is a home where the practice of farming, the passion for cooking, and the ritual of dining are woven into its very fabric—a serene retreat designed for those who seek simplicity, abundance, and a deep, nurturing connection with nature.
