In the heart of Dinesen’s Copenhagen showroom, a newly redesigned apartment emerges as a celebration of three decades of collaboration between Dinesen and British architectural designer John Pawson.
The Dinesen Apartment by John Pawson follows the recently announced Made to Order Pawson Furniture Collection, debuting in this elegant setting. It offers visitors a unique chance to immerse themselves in the Dinesen brand and the potential of a Dinesen and Pawson residence.
Without a specific design brief, Pawson’s uncompromising vision shines through, showcasing the shared dedication to craftsmanship, quality, and tranquillity. Pawson reflects, "Creating this apartment for Dinesen, as the natural home for my furniture pieces, feels like a completion of the full circle."
Blending historic features with Pawson's minimalist design, the apartment exemplifies his mastery in creating deceptively simple solutions. Pawson's expertise in sleek, concealed storage ensures a clean, calm, and ‘noiseless’ space, wrapping everyday necessities in clever minimalism.
Each piece of furniture is thoughtfully positioned, adding grounding thoughtfulness to the space. High ceilings feature subtle shelf solutions for ambient lighting, creating a restful atmosphere.
Hans Peter Dinesen, Brand Director at Dinesen, notes, "Everything about the Dinesen Apartment by John Pawson is refined back to the logic and poetry of the spaces. Our vision was to create a space where people feel an instinctive ease and affinity with their environment, embodying the essence of feeling at home."
The apartment’s living room, library, and dining area, alongside the Layer kitchen by Garde Hvalsøe, are conceived as a sequence of atmospheric volumes and charged thresholds. The kitchen, designed by Baks Arkitekter, features Dinesen Layers Oak with invisible oil and a steel worktop, mirroring Pawson’s own kitchen at Home Farm.
Dinesen’s full range of flooring is meticulously curated for each space: Herringbone Oak Classic in the library, Douglas Classic in the living room, Bond Oak Classic in the hallway, HeartOak in the kitchen, and Oak Classic in the dining room. Walls, ceilings, and panels are painted in a welcoming shade of white named ‘Cotton,’ created by Pawson for Bléo.
The apartment and furniture collection distill the ethos of the Danish word "Umage," which means going beyond what is expected. This philosophy expands the sense of progression that Dinesen and Pawson bring to their work, showcased in their new furniture collection, which includes updated designs from 1992 and new complementary pieces.
