The Addresses, a hotel brand renowned in Portugal, has a knack for creating tranquil spaces away from the bustling crowds. The minds behind this brand consistently offer a hospitality experience that is both unhurried and considerate in its approach. Their third offering, Casa Tres, sits comfortably in the southern region of Portugal, in the charming downtown area of Vila Real de Santo António.
This small, picturesque coastal town nestles by the Guadiana River, standing shoulder to shoulder with Spain on the border. The house, which has been tastefully renovated by the Lisbon-based architecture firm, Atelier Rua, is just a short stroll away from the central town square. Its interiors reflect the creative genius of Studio Stories, a design agency from Ghent, providing a space that marries modern design with timeless elegance. Casa Três greets guests with an unassuming traditional façade, a subtle invitation to the grand living spaces hidden within. On the ground floor, an expansive living room and kitchen create an inviting ambiance. The high vaulted ceiling enhances the area's spaciousness, while four balcony openings provide seamless access to a charming back patio. Terrazzo dominates the flooring, countertops, and sinks, lending a cohesive aesthetic to the entire house. Moreover, a gray cement mosaic adorns all water areas, echoing the cool tones of the terrazzo.
Back at Casa Três, a total of three bedrooms await guests. Two are located on the ground floor, adjacent to the open living area, while the third lies upstairs. Each bedroom has its own bathroom, ensuring privacy and comfort for up to six guests. The careful selection of furnishings gives the interiors a warm, homely vibe, complemented by large swaths of stuccoed white walls, terrazzo features, and lacquered wood.
Outdoors, a sunny patio offers complete privacy for guests. It features a refreshing dipping pool and a decorative citrus tree, adding to its appeal. From here, a staircase leads to multiple upper terraces, further expanding the house's leisure areas.
One unique aspect of Casa Três is its surroundings. At a convenient corner nearby, guests can rent bicycles for daily use. It’s an ideal way to explore the area, from the pine forests of Mata Nacional da Dunas Litorais to the deserted beaches south of Vila Real, reachable in under 15 minutes by bike. Further east, the historic Spanish town of Ayamonte is just a ferry ride across the Guadiana River, where visitors can savor local tapas. Towards the west, guests can explore the idyllic village of Cacela Velha, known for its expansive sandy beaches and breathtaking views. It’s worth venturing out to visit Fabric, acclaimed as one of the world’s most stunning beaches.
