Just a short drive south of Lisbon, nestled amid eucalyptus, pine, and cork oak trees, lies Casas na Ferraria by Enter Arquitectura, a family-owned property transformed into a sanctuary for both the land and its visitors.

It’s hard to believe that this serene and meticulously preserved retreat exists mere kilometers from the bustling city, yet here it stands—a place where nature, tradition, and architectural beauty harmonize.

The architect’s respect for traditional Portuguese architecture is evident throughout Casas na Ferraria. He has carefully restored the original farm buildings, preserving their distinctive structures and proportions, which reflect the elegance of the local architectural style. In doing so, he has created a retreat that is both modern and timeless. Open spaces furnished with comfortable seating encourage guests to relax, socialize, and unwind. An open kitchen invites visitors to prepare meals together, fostering community and shared experiences while making use of fresh produce grown on the property—a magical aspect for the owner's wife, who considers the garden her favorite space on the estate.

The indoor spaces are designed to blend natural elements with simplicity. Open wooden beams create a rhythmic, almost meditative quality within the interiors, while whitewashed walls lend a sanctuary-like feeling. The natural clay and reclaimed wood materials used in the construction not only honor the environment but also provide a sense of warmth and harmony. Thoughtfully arranged green spaces between the buildings feel organic and welcoming, with enough wildness to encourage exploration but carefully tended to remain accessible.

For generations, this land has belonged to the family of the owners, a dedicated architect and his wife, who have infused new life into it. Once an energetic, productive farm, Casas na Ferraria has evolved into an ecosystem that seamlessly blends sustainable practices with an inviting atmosphere for those seeking rejuvenation and connection with nature. The project incorporates organic farming, water conservation, and renewable energy practices, transforming the garden into a thriving hub for environmental education and community engagement. The owner's innovative approach, grounded in permaculture ethics, ensures that the landscape flourishes while also becoming a place of learning, sharing, and personal renewal.

Beyond the interiors, the grounds offer an ideal setting for group retreats and thematic events. A swimming pool and an open yoga deck bathe in the Portuguese sun, providing spaces for relaxation and movement year-round. The mild climate of the region makes Casas na Ferraria an appealing destination in every season, with floor heating ensuring a cozy atmosphere during cooler months.

Casas na Ferraria represents a new way of thinking about land stewardship and hospitality—one where the renewal of both people and the environment is prioritized.
