The Bica Table, conceived by Manuel Aires Mateus for Branca Design, stands as a notable addition to the portfolio of this distinguished Portuguese furniture brand.
Marco Sousa Santos, the visionary behind Branca, has a rich history of collaboration with the well-known architect, where over the last decade their synergistic efforts have consistently redefined spatial and object design.
Inspired by linear sketches, the Bica’s minimalist lines create an impression of lightness. Its structure, almost ethereal, features wooden planes that appear to float above the ground, supported by slender legs. This delicate balance is maintained by an almost invisible steel frame, bestowing the table with its unique proportions. The design subtly nods to the iconic Lisbon restaurant, Bica do Sapato, seamlessly merging practicality with timeless sophistication.
In a celebration of this fusion of design and architecture, Branca staged a photoshoot at the Sobreiras House, a recent project by Manuel Aires Mateus set amidst the serene landscapes of Grândola. The house, with its unexpected architectural elements, serves as an ideal backdrop for Branca’s latest creations. Characterized by sober volumes and systematic spatial sequences, the Sobreiras House forms an environment where light, textures, and materials harmoniously converge.
Within this meticulously curated setting, the Bica Table, offered in oak wood and marble, is showcased alongside other Branca pieces, encapsulating the brand’s aesthetic. This includes the Mars, Fio, Volta, and Aya chairs, the Gomo armchair, Stereo sofa, Tri Woods side table, and the new outdoor collection.
The materiality of the house seamlessly integrates with the Bica Table and the broader Branca design ethos, blending effortlessly with the surrounding landscape to create a striking yet tranquil setting. This collaboration underscores the profound impact of thoughtful design in crafting spaces that inspire and endure.
