We still don’t have enough of discovering spectacular works of Austrian architects Markus Innauer and Sven Matt standing behind Innauer-Matt Architekten. Their thoughtful approach to design impresses us in every one of their works.
Bergkapelle stands in Bregenzerwald at the foot of primal landscape of an alpine valley in Western Austria. In this region small chapels dedicated to celebrate masses and the traditional consecration are used on normal day basis by of the local farmers and their livestock.
After the demolition of one of them in 2012, the team of Innauer Matt Architected took a challenge to give a new form of this sacred place and after years of struggling with the client and the local community, finally the mountain chapel arised to blend with the landscape and alpine huts most naturally. Eventually, it became the gathering place, the one where the whole community meet, celebrate, take a moment to pray and contemplate.
