Her work is truly beautiful, and we are very pleased to feature another project from Ilona. In the ongoing portrait project, reasonably titled Rodeo girls, Ilona has been exploring the community of girls competing in rodeos, capturing the essence of their strong character, despite their young age.

With a sensitive eye, she’s been able to capture their contrasting attitude towards gender roles, meanwhile highlighting their hidden femininity, which they express through their most cared value, their animals.

“I am interested in the limitation these girls face in expressing their femininity and the transference of it onto animals, which are very well groomed and pampered. The animals take on the feminine qualities and girls embrace masculine demeanor. Those girls adopted the dress code that follows male fashion system and many of them enjoy not having to look or behave in a feminine way,” the artist described.
