Erbar Mattes reconfigured the former layout of a London houseResearch, Architecture, Interiors
Erbar Mattes is a London-based architecture studio, established by Demian Erbar and Holger Mattes in 2015. Passionate about the design and realisation of well-crafted buildings, Erbar Mattes focuses on the timeless qualities of space, light and material, irrespective of budget or scale.
Situated on a quiet residential street in London, the former layout was based towards the front of the house, mainly oriented towards the street. To create a sufficient privacy for habitants, the team of Erbar Mattes decided to reorganize the arrangement of the ground floor, refocusing the attention towards the rear of the house. The re-structured floor plan houses the kitchen, dining and play area, with a deep upholstered bench along a folding oak framed window. The extension’s facade is made of lime washed masonry and precast concrete, sandblasted to a rough finish, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
