Born in 1992, Wiktor Kubiak is a student of The Institute of Creative Photography in Opava. In his practice he merges documentary photography and reportage.
In 2014 Wiktor leaned over the story of the 06 Kleofas boxing club in Katowice, Poland, what led to the creation of the photography series titled Kleofas.
The 06 Kleofas club played a significant role in the society of Katowice and has associated the local community during its almost one hundred years of history.
Not only the club contributed to the integration of young people but also has been an arena for significant boxing galas. Even though the harsh times for the club came, the contestants didn’t stop training and kept on winning titles. The plot on which the building was standing has been recently sold and the building that served as a shelter for the club was demolished.
Wiktor managed to happen to immortalize the cult club before its decay. He created a story which can be described as a tribute payed to this special place, that will remain in memory of the local people. The artist closed the project in a form of a book, that can be purchased here.
