Earlier this year a Swedish designer and a mastermind behind a multidisciplinary Studio E.O Erik Olovsson debuted in Milan with a collection of stools made from slatted pine and treated with various hues and patterns of screen-print dye.
With a background in graphic design and art direction, Erik has developed an exquisite sense of color and form. Led by his intuition, allowing the hand and the eye to direct the process, the series of stools evolved from the exercises to explore and develop techniques through practice and repetition. This daily experimental practice with a color-treated wood was called Afternoon Sculpture.
"Each day a new experiment. Each day a continuation of and reaction to the previous. Using a limited palette of pine and screen print dye, materials left over from previous work, the small tests developed into the foundations for ST∞L. ST∞L is a sequence, a collection of experiments on color and connections," explains Erik.
Assembled in Erik's studio, each stool evolves from the previous, the change subtle in contrast to the bold and graphic elements within each piece. Their shared origin is clear but each presents its own unique and playful character. This project is ongoing and will continue to explore using new materials, colors and connections as reactions to the previous work.
