Shrimps, the British fashion label known for playful, vibrant faux fur and outerwear was launched in 2013 by the young London-based designer, Hannah Weiland.
With a background in History of Art and a diploma in Surface Textile Design from the London College of Fashion, Weiland takes her inspiration from the witticisms of modern art and a playful engagement with pattern and texture. The designer grew up with a menagerie of pets, and her Shrimps label derives from a childhood nickname. For her collections, Hannah draws her idea from the early life memories, for instance, by imitating the furs of the animals she has grown up with.
Using carefully sourced fabrics that emphasise colour and texture, Hannah creates unique, beautifully crafted pieces, perfect for the forward-thinking customer with a taste for the fun in fashion. Recently Hannah unveiled an extensive new collection for Resort 16 Season. Weiland introduced ultimate feminine garments with a sense of girly innocence. Referring to the Vivian Girls, Henry Darger’s illustrations, and Brazilian folk-art book Retratos Pintados as her inspirations, Hannah has included softer patterns and new materials to her collection, like a denim-inspired Asian jacquard coat with a faux shearling collar.
