Mapping Asia is another publication from New York-based graphic design studio Project Projects. This one combines selected materials from Asia Art Archive (AAA), an independent non-profit organization that documents artistic activity throughout Asia.
AAA was established in 2000 and since then has gathered a rich collection of Asian art across sites, geography, and media.
As Project Projects says: ”The book presents not only artworks, but a wide range of ephemera, texts, publications, and other materials through a consistent series of layouts annotated with a unique orange overlay.” Recurrent on selected pages, slight and subtle details recall calligraphic brush strokes. In fact, the publication is an image of the Asian continent taken by satellite and transformed into fine print. It perfectly suits the shades of images together, forming an energetic and striking, yet clear, project.
