Bachelor student of graphic design at ECAL in Switzerland, Matthieu Visentin comes out well with his book titled Drop City or Why Haven’t We Seen a Photograph of the Whole Universe Yet?
The book is a documentation of research about the most significant subculture in 1960’s, the hippies. It presents mechanisms of living in a hippie commune and its utopia.
The story is told in the example of Drop City, which was counterculture artists' community formed in the USA in 1965. The print reveals a problem of difficulties and the inability of living in such an environment. The design of the book was inspired by archives from the 60’s, significantly by the Stewart Brand's Whole Earth Catalog. The catalog published in 1968, containing reproductions of tools and tips on how to exist in such a commune.
