Made from natural materials such as cotton and silk, young underwear label MARIEYAT offers a new sensitivity to modern women.
Blending the lines between lingerie and unisex underwear, the seamless undergarments emphasize contemporary designs, comfortability, and versatility. Consciously made in China, the underwear label created by CSM graduate Marie Yat reflects its own notion of unisexuality.
Born and raised in Hong Kong, Marie’s interest in fashion grew from a young age. “Growing up in Hong Kong we are very lucky to be surrounded by the latest fashion and trends. However, it can turn out to be an over consumption of brand names and repetitive style soullessly” she told in one of her interviews. “This made me the question, and I had a desire to look deeper into fashion as a form of self-expression and assurance.”
For her debut collection, Marie was exploring Women in Chinese Erotic Art and images of women that show the beautiful and intriguing imperfection of female bodies – stretch marks, scars, and bruises. This attitude is clearly reflected in Marie’s editorials, where her models appear natural and unretouched.
For the new Collection II, Marie has drawn inspiration from Kintsugi, the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with Gold, Silver or Platinum, which can be seen embroidered throughout the collection. The incorporation of this technique is to highlight the brand's belief in the beauty of imperfection and the acceptance of flaws in people, relationships, and objects. Also, the inspiration was carried from Muk-bang videos, an online food porn craze popular in South Korea. These references can be seen reflected in the lookbook images as well as in the name of the newly introduced colourway: Red Bean. At the heart of the brand is the importance of friendship, sharing and an honest representation of women. MARIEYAT continues to provide each wearer with seamless underwear & loungewear that doesn't compromise comfortability for sensuality.
