Presented project, named House in Akitsu, is positioned to face the exceptional scenery of the Seto Inland Sea, giving opportunity to the habitants to visually absorb the view.
The grey house may seem intimidating at first sight with its strict structure, but the architects made sure to design a construction, which radiates the feeling of balance and harmony.
“The most interesting challenge for this project was to create a comfortable inside silence combined with a new openness atmosphere. In this plan I set two squares intersecting each other and thought about the good balanced interaction between the wall structure and the openings,” they explained. The first floor is lowered slightly into the ground, preserving the feeling of privacy. It also features a concrete spiral staircase, which is deprived of the central pillar because of the strong supporting slab, therefore transmitting an appearance of perfect fluidity. In the upper part of the building, the use of polished concrete finish in the living room and the kitchen helps to reflect the natural light, therefore it wonderfully enhances the brightness. The spacious rooms feature a short stair, which seamlessly connects the living area to the bedroom, yet divides it into separate spaces.
