Project She Said… is a result of collaboration between a photographer Jess Bonham and a set designer Anna Lomax, both based in London.
The idea for this series of sensual still life images came from an unexpected email Anna had received from her neighbor: “It was posted out to the tenants of Anna’s building and was an apology about a previous ‘client’ from this woman’s sideline dominatrix business causing some havoc in the building one weekend. Anna had no idea she was a dominatrix as her day job is far more conservative,” explained Jess.
The final concept visualizes the weird dimensions of people’s private lives. By the use of materials, such as latex, furs, carpets, nylon and glass, the artists created abstract sets exploring taboo leisure pursuits. "We wanted these images to allude to the goings on behind closed doors, rituals, desires, and fantasies that people have, and find a place where the images could sit right on the point of innuendo and voyeurism. We found ourselves channeling Anna’s neighbor when building the sets, imagining this older woman, with a secret parallel life. She’s sophisticated and seductive, powerful and unapologetic,” added Jess.
