The Annka Kultys Gallery in London is currently hosting an exhibition called I Think Mango You Say Salmon. This is a collaborative project of Ittah Yoda — young international artistic duo comprised of Virgile Ittah from France and Kai Yoda from Japan.
Both artists are recent graduates of the MFA programme at the Royal College of Art in London, where they met and started working together.
Virgile and Kai create abstract paintings and sculptures combining physically rigid materials such as metal and marble with softer, more pliable, elements like wax, silicone and acrylic powder. For the exhibition, the artists carefully arranged subtle assemblages over the walls, the floor or even the ceiling, making the gallery itself an independent work of art.
Coming from different cultural backgrounds, these seemingly contrasting personalities complement each other and find harmony in interacting. Like yin and yang, the duo represents a perfect balance.
