Belgian contemporary photographer Gert Verbelen finished his Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent, then acquired his Master’s Degree in Photography at the same academy. He is currently based in Brussels.
When working on the project — The Inner Circle of Europe, the artist devoted his time to travel to the exact center of eighteen countries of the Eurozone, calculated by the measurements of the smallest circle that could be drawn around each country.
Fascinated by the unknown, the process of creating the project, which took him over a year, led Gert to explore plenty of astonishing places.
Immersed in the lives of the habitants, Gert’s photographs display personal stories, capturing everyday moments in the seemingly desolated villages. The Inner Circle of Europe showcases his encounters with human presence, along with small, often hidden details. The series is closed in a fine book, published by Kannibaal Publishing.
