We present another brilliant design of Germans Ermičs, a Latvian designer based in Amsterdam. Ombré Glass Chair is a tribute to Shiro Kuramata and was presented at Rossana Orlandi during Milan Design Week.
A design of Germans Ermičs is a modern interpretation of iconic Glass Chair, a design of Japan's most important designers of the 20th century, Shiro Kuramata. The design of this legendary designer was created in 1976 and was a breakthrough concept at that time setting the direction of design in glass for future. Its pure form delighted with simplicity, transparency and weightlessness.
Inspired by Kuramata’s work, Germans Ermičs also concentrates on creation in glass and aims to search for the best linkage between the material and its chromatic expression. As he shares his thoughts: „I chose very simple geometric shapes and transformed its cold, linear geometry into an element of unprecedented depth, opening the way for a world of new interpretations. The colour becomes the element that generates the meaning of the form, transforming the pure geometry of material into an expressive object. In my work it’s a way of approaching colour as a true three-dimensional object having its own consistency.”
