General Design is an American architecture studio established by Shin Ohori in 1999. Since then he has implemented numerous projects appreciated worldwide.
Photographer’s Weekend House is the private residence constructed near the sandy beaches of Kujūkuri, a town located in Sanbu District, Chiba Prefecture, Japan. The team of General Design Architects tried to employ the potential of the broad and flat land entirely and as a result came out the robust one-storey concrete summer house.
It was requested by a photographer, who asked for an interior characterized by a dialogue between light and shadow. The house is made of exposed concrete and features an open interior with a floor-to-ceiling glasses. Throughout the day, sufficient natural light enters the building from the four different courtyards and large skylight, creating various shadow figures, depending on the luminosity of the Sun.
