The project, titled Furnishing Utopia, brings the beholder closer to an imperishable legacy. The display reviving the Shaker theme has been successfully exhibited in New York and Stockholm.
From time to time, the characteristic aesthetics of the Shakers relives a revival, and it cannot be denied, that the community inspired multiple contemporary designers to reimagine classical pieces of elemental furniture in their distinct style.
For the exhibition titled Furnishing Utopia, 12 designers, in collaboration with the Hancock Shaker Village and the Mt. Lebanon Shaker Museum, were invited to rethink the aesthetics of the Shaker community, who pride themselves on their quiet lifestyle, female religious leadership, and also on their simplistic and functionalist furniture design.
The final outcome, titled Collection one is composed of 32 Shaker-inspired objects, that carry the characteristics of clean lines and contemporaneity, while remaining true to the fundamental principles of the diminishing community.
