Folch is a Barcelona-based design studio, dealing with multiple disciplines — from concept to realization. It was founded in 2004 by Albert Folch.
Earth, Water, Air, Fire: The Four Elements and Architecture is a book created by the creative team of Folch. Thanks to their great experience and skills, Folch was commisioned by Dr. Josep Lluis Mateo, an architect and professor at ETH Zürich, to create the seventh Architectural Paper, developed at the ETH Zürich, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology. The publication was co-authored by the Austrian architect Florian Sauter.
It celebrates the connection between nature and architecture, expressed by the four principles of Earth, Water, Air and Fire. "The core of the publication is divided into four parts after the four natural elements: Earth, Water, Air and Fire. The way the book is produced speaks of the way the content is structured: the different materials — together with the presence of an insert— draw clearly a distinction in between the sections, making the fore edge a useful navigational feature,” explained the team of Folch.
Earth, Water, Air, Fire: The Four Elements and Architecture is a publication that definitely deserves a closer look. Intriguing both, inside and outside, it was brought together by Actar Publishers.
