House in Gotland is a vacation home for a family of four designed by Stockholm-based architecture practice Etat Arkitekter.
Etat Arkitekter was founded in 2008 by Erik Törnkvist, with a particular focus on contemporary projects carrying specific character and strong presence. The office currently leads a few projects in Sweden and Japan, simultaneously is an ward-winning practice in Stockholm.
Their latest project House in Gotland, as the name suggests is situated on the island of Gotland in the Baltic Sea. The architects had to take into account the harsh climate and lime-filled soil dominated by flowering meadows and low juniper bushes. Carefully chosen building materials, with a strong emphasis on durability and tolerance to weather appeared in a clear construction, which structure is made of robust stone, referring to the traditional Gotlandic culture. Keeping in mind the importance of tradition restricted to the immediate area, the team of Etat Arkitekter built a house, which creates a harmonious dialogue with its surroundings.
