Dani Gherca is a visual artist, expressing himself mainly through video and photography medium. He is based in Bucharest, Romania, where he received his BFA and MFA degree in photography from National University of Arts, Bucharest.
He is particularly interested in issues connected with perception, memory, time and history.
Presented photo series, titled A Diagram of Utopia is Dani’s personal observation of three working class neighbourhoods of Bucharest – Dristor, Pantelimon and Titan, built between ’70s and ’80s. Influenced by his strong childhood memories, Dani’s well captured photographs reflect an intimate relationship with the place, while studying the surroundings. A Diagram of Utopia doesn’t create an authoritative portrait of a place. Rather, it weaves a story based on personal experiences of the artist.
