Corpo Atelier is a Portuguese creative practice based in Vilamoura. The architects standing behind the studio create through exploring, expansing and merging architecture and art. The outcome of this attitude in the making, is the sudio's Chair as Architecture.
The architects inspired by the ambience of the Southern Portuguese cities, its facades, proportion ratio and architectural details, constructed the seating that besides its practical features also serves as a beautiful and harmonious object.
Chair as Architecture is a simply synthesis of the historic, precious architecture. And thus, the legs stand for columns, the seat symbolizes a roof, all forming the shape alike the building. As the design is based on the rules of building, the construction of the seating plays a crucial part in the whole project. „The 15mm galvanized steel mimics the outline of traditional buildings one can find travelling trough Alentejo or Algarve. This white abstract structure, produced industrially, is then woven with tule (a dried natural plant) in order to create a seat, by the hands of an experienced crafstman. The human intervention differentiates the design, making each chair a unique object,” the architects explain.
