Pau Bajet and Maria Giramé graduated from Barcelona School of Architecture in 2013. Soon after graduation, they decided to set up their own studio Bajet Giramé, based in between two cities, Barcelona and London.
Besides leading their own practice, both of the designers still participate in various activities. Pau has been recently awarded by La Caixa Fellowship for Postgraduate Studies to complete a PhD ‘by design’, at the Architectural Research Unit of the Sir John Cass Faculty of Art, Architecture and Design in London, where he currently works as a teacher. Maria works as a correspondent architect of the COAC in London, and also forms a part of David Chipperfield Architects team.
Home in Mitre is the latest project of Pau and Maria. The former spaces, dating back to the 70’s, were based on program requirements resulting in a series of small rooms and corridors with predefined functions. The aim of the project was to bring back the hidden qualities of the historical apartment and define a new series of suggestive settings. The updated apartment celebrates the former idea of free plan, featuring freestanding modern steel columns and beams, while uncovering the traditional gentle ceiling vaults. Accompanied by series of timber furniture, the new layout aims for subtlety and elegance.
