Previously featured in Thisispaper, Spanish architectural practice ARQUITECTURA-G , through the years of practice, managed to renovate various spaces in Spain and abroad, at the same time developing its unique, distinctive style in designing.
A single-family country house, located in the outskirts of Santa Margarida de Montbui, Barcelona, underwent metamorphosis by the accomplished team of ARQUITECTURA-G in 2015. The architects, Jonathan Arnabat, Jordi Ayala-Bril, Aitor Fuentes and Igor Urdampilleta, deliberately transformed the house of 200m² volume into a marvellous, intimate place to live in the midst of the splendid scenery.
Originally, the house, standing on the extensive plot of 7.000m², was allocated for agricultural use. Hence, the building with its status of a farmhouse, subjects to the rules according to which, it doesn’t allow any modification in terms of volumetrics and façade openings. “The volume had a direct relationship with the environment, without preamble in the transition from the field to the interior.
The change of the functional program required to define the immediate environment of the house as a more limited and protected area in relation to the totally open plain,” explained he team of ARQUITECTURA-G. Thus, the architects formed a 1m deep depression below the level of the terrace, in order to create the main access to the house and define a new artificial landscape, which would conceive as the main platform of interaction between the exterior and the interior.
The inner space is shaped around load-bearing core, which contains all facilities and links the living levels. Its design is based on the contrast and contrapostions. „The main load-bearing elements are rough, heavy and coarse, while the secondary elements and the interior partitions have smoother and lighter finishings and are built with light structure techniques,” the architects described. The exertions of using chromatic palette of earthy tone perfectly blends with the environment providing a continuous dialogue between the work of man and nature.
