Presented project, titled White House is 160 square meters residence located in Hutong of Dongcheng District, Beijing. The space was renovated by Han Wen-Qiang together with the designer Zhao Yang for a young couple.
As the exterior of the house is rather obscure, the purpose of the designers was to shape bright, transparent inner space providing clean atmosphere. The architects juxtaposed different materials in cold shades of white, which became the dominant theme of the whole project. While reducing the variety in the colour layer, they took advantage of the light, and created the feeling of a flowing space. One of the most spectacular piece in the whole project is a staircase. Made out of steel stair treads and perforated steel handrails, it gives the impression of the stairs leading to the skies. Another impressive elements are numerous built-in bookcases covered by the wooden grid doors, reaching from floor to ceiling. This motive is scattered across every ground, thus creating various behaviour spaces, such as tea drinking or reading.
