AKU is a design studio based in Tallin, Estonia. The collective of AKU takes on projects, ranging along various creative fields, such as architecture, culture, music, or fashion industry.
It was founded in 2012 by Alari Orav, Kaarel Kala and Uku-Kristjan Küttis, who share over 40 years of combined experience in communication design and work both, locally and internationally.
Thanks to the deep practical and theoretical understanding of design, AKU was commissioned to design a book for the Estonian National Museum’s main building at Raadi, titled An essay on spatial culture. The design challenge was to create a book, that will contain Gregor Taul's essay accompanied by plenty of visual material. Through research with special attention to tactile details, the designers decided to create five booklets, all closed in an elegant grey slipcase. Each of them is dedicated to a slightly different theme, but together, they form a whole.
